Lindsay Lohan
Actor
Redhaired, wideeyed and freckled,
Lindsay Lohan began modelling at age three and then appeared in dozens of TV ads as a youngster, including a JellO pudding spot with
Bill Cosby. The role of Alli Fowler in the soap opera
Another World (199697) gave Lohan her first real longform experience. As she entered her teens she starred in a string of kidfriendly
Walt Disney films: as longseparated twin sisters in
The Parent Trap (1998, with
Dennis Quaid); bringing a favorite doll to life in
LifeSize (2000, with supermodel
Tyra Banks); switching bodies with her mother (Jamie Lee Curtis) in the 2003 comedy
Freaky Friday; and driving a famous Volkswagen Beetle in Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005, with
Matt Dillon). She showed fewer freckles and more curves in the high school comedy
Mean Girls (2004, with
Rachel McAdams); the film was a big hit and made her a star. At the same time she became a tabloid magazine favorite as she grew up in the public eye. She gained a reputation as a wild child fond of latenight revels, a notion which seemed confirmed when she announced early in 2007 that she was entering a rehab facility. Her other films include the Manhattan romantic comedy
Just My Luck (2006) and director Robert Altman's last film, A Prairie Home Companion (2006, based on the radio show of
Garrison Keillor). Lohan also has dabbled in pop music, releasing the albums
Speak in 2004 and A Little More Personal (Raw) in 2005.
Extra credit: The Parent Trap was a remake of a 1961 film by the same name, which starred
Hayley Mills. Freaky Friday also was a remake;
Jodie Foster starred in the 1976 original... Lohan told
Vanity Fair magazine in a 2006 article that she had been bulimic but had recovered... Lohan is 19 days younger than
The Olsen Twins... Lohan's official site notes that "Her birthday is 02 July,
not 11 October. That birthday was shared by Annie James and Hallie Parker, Lindsay's characters in
The Parent Trap."
Other stars of Lohan's generation: actors
Hilary Duff and
Anne Hathaway, and musicians
